How time flies! Now we have come to the end of the Transition Camp. Though two weeks is a relatively short time, we still gained a lot from the Camp. The spirit of cooperation and team work, close relationships formed with teachers and peers and the excitements of outdoor adventures, all of these are the footprints we left, and will never fade in our memories. It is never easy for us to say goodbye to lovely friends and teachers, but we sure will meet again since we are the members of the ISA education ecosystem. We hope this transition camp will leave you not only memories, but also the spirit of ISA people. Now, let's leave the sorrow aside and jointly participate in the Closing Ceremony of 2022 ISA Summer Transition Camp. Leaving a frozen moment at ISA this summer.
眨眼间,已来到爱莎街接营的尾声。两周很短,但经过朝夕相处,孩子们与老师间早已留下了深刻的回忆,有亲密的友谊,紧密的联系,团队活动中的合作精神和户外野营中的激动人心。分别降至,难免会觉得不舍,但作为爱莎教育生态系统的一员,终有许多机会相见。希望本次的衔接营留给你们的不止记忆,还有属于爱莎人的精神。现在让我们搁置分离的伤感与难过,共同回顾2022爱莎衔接营结营仪式,这个夏天,爱莎定格你最美的样子。

Closing Ceremony
结营仪式
Our transition camp students attended their closing ceremony! It was an exciting morning where parents, teachers, and students came together and cerebrated the students completing their time in transition camp. The ceremony began with a beautiful rendition and students went onstage to receive their certificates. The outstanding students in outdoor activities were also presented that is given to the certificates. Lastly, students and their families celebrated the event in auditorium with photos. Congratulations to our transition camp students who will be starting their exciting secondary school journey at ISA campus!

Debate
辩论
This week, we reviewed various types of figurative language and how they can be used in their debate. Students were divided into teams for their debate and then prepared for their debate. Students participated in a mock debate. Students were divided into teams for their debate; the affirmative team and the negative team. Both teams were assessed on 6 criteria over 4 rounds.
本周,我们回顾了各种各样的比喻性语言,以及如何在辩论中使用它们。学生们被分成辩论队,然后为辩论做准备。学生们参加了模拟辩论。学生们被分成小组进行辩论;肯定组和否定组。两支队伍在4轮比赛中都接受了6项标准的评估。

Critical Thinking

This week, after we explained to class the meaning of the phrase “A crucial decision”, that is, a decision that massively affects the rest of our lives, Teacher asked the students to write down within one minute, what THEY thought are the 2 most crucial decisions in the lives. Many good answers came up like: Whether to go abroad or stay in China, Which university to go to, What kind of job to take, Whether to marry or stay single, What kind of husband to choose, and many others. Our final activity was a creative and fun one, where the students had to use their critical thinking in deciding whether this arrogant lady, or whether that lazy young man, would be a suitable partner for life.
本周,在我们向同学们解释了“一个至关重要的决定”的含义后,老师让学生们在一分钟内写下他们认为一生中最重要的两个决定。许多好的答案出现了:是出国还是留在国内,上哪所大学,做什么样的工作,是结婚还是单身,选择什么样的丈夫等等。我们的最后一个活动是一个创造性和有趣的活动,学生们必须用他们的批判性思维来决定是这个傲慢的女士,还是那个懒惰的年轻人,是合适的生活伴侣。

This week, students and teacher discussed the methods the students use to write essays. Then the teacher gave helpful step by step tips on how to prepare and write essays. Finally the students designed a how-to poster to keep in their bedroom or near their desks. Students and teacher discussed different study habits. The teacher also gave them some additional methods to suit their learning styles. Then the students played a memory game, where they had to remember images in order as they disappeared off the screen. Lastly, the teacher presented a series of numbers and students tried to remember as many numbers out of 20 as they could.

This week’s lesson began with some warm up games. Miss Phoebe was very impressed with the groups commitment to the activities and support of one another. They created an atmosphere that was very lively and friendly.

This week in Global Perspective, students learned the word of the day with certain language and read an article with the topic of comparison of education systems to understand that all facts are supported by logical and meaningful reasonings. To accept the fact that everyone has blind spots. To understand perception is not a thermometer. To view things with opposite angles.
在本周的全球视野课程中,学生们用特定的语言学习了每日词汇,并阅读了一篇以教育系统比较为主题的文章,以理解所有事实都有逻辑和有意义的推理支持。接受每个人都有盲点的事实。理解感知不是温度计。用相反的角度看事物。

TF Vocabulary

Earlier this week, we did a pop quiz with 12 TOEFL vocabulary questions, and the result was quite satisfying. Most of them did a good job and could find the right evidence at both textual and contextual levels based on what they had learnt in the first week. It is gratifying to see that these smart kids applying what they learnt to a real TOEFL test. Then in the following classes, we discussed how to enlarge vocabulary bank in a fun way. Everyone in class were willing to share their experiences and valuable tips . I am sure that these quick learners will find a scientific way to academic success.

For the second week, we looked at how different types of modifiers were employed in sentences to provide additional information and make ourselves more expressive. After illustrations and instructions, our students were able to produce vivid sentences describing their newly made friends, a class activity not only enhancing their understanding but also bringing great fun to class. Then we furthered our learning to the connections between sentences. The students were able to identify and correctly use coordinating conjunctions, subordinating conjunctions, and adverb conjunctions. This part of learning, I believe, will benefit their future writing by improving the coherence and cohesion in their works.
第二周,我们研究了不同类型的修饰语是如何在句子中使用的,以提供额外的信息,使我们更有表现力。通过插画和讲解,我们的学生能够用生动的句子描述他们新认识的朋友,这不仅增进了他们的理解,也给课堂带来了极大的乐趣。然后我们进一步学习句子之间的联系。学生能够识别并正确使用并列连词、从属连词和副词连词。我相信通过这一部分的学习,可以提高他们作品的连贯性和衔接性,对他们未来的写作有很大的帮助。

What is the difference between informal and academic writing? Mr. Allen analyzes the differences between types of writing on a spectrum. From the earliest forms of writing (hieroglyphics and etching on the wall) to policies and speeches that bring war and peace, Mr. Allen reviews the key components of good academic writing. Students are reminded to always have a dictionary and thesaurus with them in all classes. They are reminded that reading a wide selection of genres will boost their writing abilities. Daily readings of the news will increase their reading and writing skills while familiarizing with academic style writing.
非正式写作和学术写作有什么区别? Allen老师在一个光谱上分析了不同类型的写作的差异。从最早的文字形式(象形文字和蚀刻在墙上)到带来战争与和平的政策和演讲,Allen回顾了优秀学术写作的关键组成部分。提醒学生在所有课堂上都要带一本字典和同义词词典。他们被提醒,阅读广泛的体裁将提高他们的写作能力。每天阅读新闻将提高他们的阅读和写作技能,同时熟悉学术风格的写作。

In science lesson, we introduced a new ingredient in scientific report writing, identifying variables. We talked about the importance of three different variables: independent variable, dependent variable, and control variables in all scientific investigations. We then focused on science inquiry demonstrated with a fun and simple science experiment, students were given time working on their individual scientific report in preparation for their presentations next time.

This week in visual arts, students are looking at a work of art or listening to a music piece and saying “I like it” or “I don’t like it!”, does not display much intelligence or critical thinking. As adults or young adults, we need to be able to use our critical thinking in order to justify our tastes and life choices not just to others, but mainly to ourselves. In our case and lesson, four distinct music pieces were played to the class and the students were required to express in writing, a logical or sensible reason why they enjoyed each piece, or not.
这周在视觉艺术课上,学生们看着一件艺术作品或听一段音乐,说“我喜欢它”或“我不喜欢它!”,并没有显示出多少智慧或批判性思维。作为成年人或年轻人,我们需要能够运用批判性思维来证明我们的品味和生活选择。不仅是对别人,而且主要是对我们自己。在我们的案例和课程中,学生们在课堂上演奏了四首不同的曲子,并被要求用书面形式表达他们喜欢或不喜欢每首曲子的逻辑或合理的理由。

Math CCA
数学拓展课程
This week in math CCA, we started with getting to know the careers in applied mathematics. They were inspired by the concept of math modeling and came up with a related project independently. Students found that many students were exhausted during the ISA Transition camp by the time they got to their CCA classes in the afternoon. Therefore, they decided to come up with a formula that calculates how tired will students get by the time of their CCA classes based on their conditions. To do that, they collected data from the students, analyzed the data, made reasonable and logical assumptions, created formulae, and tested their reasoning with the data. With the help of the instructor, we made a program that calculates the tiredness of a student based on their conditions. At the end of the project, students were asked to reflect on the research. As critical mathematicians, they must know to provide logical reasoning, recognize assumptions, and learn how to improve their accuracy in the study. In this week’s math CCA, they were all trained to be a critical mathematician.

Arts CCA
美术拓展课程
In Arts, after the first week of practice on lines, we entered to create a watercolor painting this week. We use light brush strokes to write manuscript ideas, master the characteristics of watercolor pigments, and use different techniques such as dry, wet, thick and fine strokes. The watercolor color paving adopts the local painting method to control the moisture to make the color connect naturally. Students can take the initiative to consider the primary and secondary relationship of the picture, sketching the black, white and gray layout, the cold and warm relationship in the color, and the pure gray relationship and other issues. It just takes time to master and use tools. As teachers, I am very happy to see them focus on painting their own works, and the idea direction of the works is very in line with their own personality.
在美术课上,经过了第一周对线条的练习后,我们这周进入创作构思一幅水彩画作品,使用轻的笔触去打稿构思,掌握水彩颜料的特性,使用干、湿、粗笔、细笔等不同技法。其中水彩铺色采用局部画法,控制水分使色彩衔接自然,学生都能做到考虑画面主次关系,素描黑白灰布局,色彩中的冷暖关系,纯灰关系等问题。只是需要时间去熟练工具的掌握与运用,作为老师,我很高兴见到他们专注地去画自己的作品,而且作品构思方向都非常的符合他们自己的个性。

Music CCA
音乐拓展课程
In music thsi week, we experienced a variety of musical forms, including, but not limited to, choral singing, niche instruments, percussion, alternative interpretations of music, and an introduction to music making. During the song sessions, we were exposed to songs in European languages other than English. Music production not only covers the essential elements of how it works, synthesizers, mixing, etc., but its knowledge can also be transferred to audio and video editing. Students are also guided to build team spirit and greater concentration through in-class performances and a small number of music-based leisure games.
在这周的音乐课上,我们体验了多种音乐形式,包括不限于合唱、小众乐器、打击乐、另类的音乐演绎、音乐制作入门。在歌曲环节中,我们接触了英语以外的欧洲语言的歌曲。音乐制作不仅涉及了运作原理、合成器、混音等必有的元素,它的知识点还可以举一反三到音频视频剪辑等。此外还通过课堂上的演奏和少量音乐类休闲游戏引导学生们建立团体精神和更多的注意力。

In this week's baseball course, the students learned the basic rules of baseball, as well as the action essentials of catching and hitting, and had a small baseball game. Through the guidance of the game, the students learned a lot of things other than technical actions, such as: Respect opponents, encourage teammates, thank the coach, etc., the most important is in the situation of the score is not to give up, fight back to catch up, these spirit is more important than the technical action, and deeply affect the growth of the students. As a teacher, I am very happy to see their hard work and look forward to your future performance.
本周棒球课程,学生们学习了棒球的基本规则,以及传接球和打击的动作要领,并且进行了一次小规模的棒球比赛,学生们通过比赛的引导,学习了很多技术动作的以外的东西,如:尊重对手,鼓励队友,感谢教练等,最主要的是在比分落后的情况下,不放弃的反击追赶,这些精神是比技术动作更重要,并且深深的影响这学生们的成长。作为老师,非常开心看到他们的努力拼搏,期待大家未来的表现。

This week, we had the Trivia Nights on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the students are getting ready for the Basketball Competition. It was a very wonderful game. Basketball is a charismatic collective sport. Growth in cooperation, in the growth of friendship. On Thursday, the students did the Badminton Competition. Many enthusiastic players from different house exhibited their splendid sportsmanship.
这周活动精彩丰富,周二的知识问答夜,周三的篮球比赛。比赛过程精彩至极,球员们在赛场上的表现为我们展现了篮球的魅力。在合作和比赛的过程中,也见证了友谊逐渐深厚。周四,学生们进行了羽毛球比赛。来自不同学院的许多热情的运动员展现了他们出色的体育精神。
